Komiža is a town and harbor, on the western coast of the island of Vis.. On the eastern coast of the bay are large sand and pebble beaches: Velo Zalo, Gusarica and Nova Posta.
Benedictines from the neighboring Biševo had founded there the monastery of St. Nikola. The monastery complex with the church and defense tower from the 17th century is still preserved.
