KORČULA: Most of Korčula's narrow streets are stepped. The town includes several interesting historic sights: the central Roman Catholic Church (a cathedral from 1301 to 1806), the 15th-century Franciscan monastery with its beautiful Venetian Gothic cloister, the civic council chambers, the palace of the former Venetian governors, grand 15th and 16th century palaces of the local merchant nobles, and the massive city fortifications. Marco Polo, famous traveler, was born at Curzola (modern Korčula) in 1254.  
VELA LUKA, a town and port on the western side of the island of Korčula Chief occupations are farming, wine production, olive growing and processing, fruit growing, fishing, fish and food processing, shipbuilding and tourism. The coastal strip including the small islands (Proizd, Kamenjak, Osjak and Gubesa) represents a rich fishing ground. Vela Luka lies on the regional road running along the island. Ferry port; ferry connections with Split and Lastovo. 
BLATO is situated in the middle of the island on the main island road, 40 km from Korčula. This is a traditional agricultural centre and the centre of all agricultural products of the island. The biggest public building in Blato today is the school, in whose cellars the huge cisterns of Blato wine are stored. The parish church of All Saints occupies the most prominent spot in Blato. It is a three-aisled church built in 1350, and reconstructed in its present form in 1672, when the bell-tower next to the church was built. In the church itself, there is the main altar of marble, the work of the Baroque artist Petar Pavle Bertapella (1763-1817), and the valuable All Saint painting on it, painted by the Venetian artist Girolamo da Santacroce in 1540. The church boasts a rich collection of silver, among which there are Venetian crosses from the 18th century. Saint Vicenza has been worshiped in Blato as its patron saint since 1795, and her relics are in the parish church.                    And many other small places...
